    A strategy…

    Hi all,

As you all know, I tend to record lots of songs, but don’t ever spend very much time on perfecting them.  I am going to try and improve the vocals and productions on the ones that need it the most, and make them more likeable to listen to hopefully.   Although I have recorded well over 100 songs there are only a handful that I am completely happy with.   This week  USA listeners suddenly showed interest in my newest uploads.  Ironically, 3 of these 4 tracks (plus an instrumental) were just rough live recordings from over a year ago, which I only uploaded in order to build my website and demonstrate how the lyrics would sound in a song.  I will have to record these songs properly soon, just so I can delete these dodgier versions.

Thanks for reading and thanks again to all the subscribers (over 300 now) and followers on Twitter.  I hope that all my songs will eventually sound as good as I know they can do and, in return, I hope more people listen and enjoy, but it is difficult in the time I have and with my little knowledge in musical production.  Hopefully, other musicians will lend a hand in the future and improve these songs immensely.

    New Lyrics and songs

    Hello all,
During my fortnight off I have managed to record 4 songs (the first 3 were randomly selected) and I also wrote 8 new song lyrics.   Thoughts just flooded out and they became songs for the future hopefully.  Not sure if they make a good read or not, but hopefully they will become good songs one day.  Thanks to all the subscribers who are following me (over 300 now) and I hope what I create is inspirational in one way or another.  Not all of my lyrics are factual, but undoubtedly inspired by love, life and death (and the scenarios that are created by the former, more often than not).
    Thanks,
    Colin

Mixcraft 5: The first new recording

    Hello everyone,

Firstly, I’m pleased to see 298 subscribers on this website, now, and Twitter, SoundCloud and FaceBook followers increasing.  I guess I better spend a bit more time recording my songs to a better quality now.   And, on that note, due to my Logic Pro X suddenly playing up and not allowing me to record new audio tracks anymore, I am now using Mixcraft, which I used to use back in 2011 – 2014, and (although it took a while getting used to it again yesterday) it does seem to create a much better sound than Logic does.   I may even upgrade to Mixcraft 8 instead of 5.

The first song I have recorded, using Mixcraft, is ‘Putty In Your Hand  (Song 731)’.   I added a few extra lyrics and made a few minor changes when singing it so I will update them now, but I will say that the main change is that I added a third verse.   The bridge just before it is in a style which is quite different for me and, as I thought it sounded cool, was going to end the song with that style but decided I would end on the chorus instead.   Unfortunately, the bridges that are in some of my songs are the best part and not many people get that far before abandoning the listen (try and hold out if you listen to this song).  The chorus is twice as long as originally intended and the one line before the bridge was added when first recording it.  I also added ‘it was tough’ at the end of the 2nd verse.   Unfortunately, I seem to have lost the first Mixcraft master copy and cannot amend the slightly off-beat words in the first verse.  I may re-record it if I get time.

The layout is:    Intro chorus, verse 1, chorus, verse 2, chorus, fill-in line, bridge, verse 3, chorus several times with slight background changes.

Thanks for reading this and, if you did, I guess you are interested in songwriting and how I go about it, perhaps.  Anyway, my time-off is running out and I’d better make use of what little time I have left and record another song.

    Bye for now,

    Colin

    Subscribers

    Hello all,
As many of you know I have created my website as completely as I can at this point in time.   There are still certain things I have yet to learn about website creating and not sure how easy it is for people to access my site.  I am assuming that ‘subscribers’ is the same as ‘followers’.   I have tried to allow people to access my site without having to subscribe but don’t know how to yet without having to do it via a subscribing page (which I didn’t create and don’t know how to remove this).  I am assuming that the people who have subscribed (nearly 300 now) are the equivalent of ‘followers’.  I thank all those that have subscribed and will assume you are that that you are following my musical pursuits and creativity.  If this is the case can you click on the ‘follow’ button just so I know that this is the case.  Thanks for reading this and subscribing and a big thank you if you do become ‘followers’ as well.  Hope I can keep you interested and improve my collection and improve the songs which I have already recorded (many of which were recorded very quickly during the last year) and are not as good as I they could be yet.  Anyway, by for now and hopefully more songs will be recorded over the next couple of weeks as well as making improvements to older ones.  Thanks  once again and any feedback is  welcomed.

The Fastest Man In The World (Song 842)

The fastest man in the world
    Didn’t want to race
He  knew he was the fastest
    And that feeling he embraced
    People tried to force him
    Into competition
    But he just didn’t
    Want to listen.

    Knowing is what counts
    Don’t need to be showing
    He had self pride
    In just the knowing
    Had nothing to prove
    He felt good in himself
    Happy in life
    In fitness and in health.

He knew he was the fastest
    But lived a happy life
    And that was enough
    Fame and fortune pushed aside.

    Didn’t want attention
    Or recognition
    He was happy
    And on no mission
    He needed no attention
    He had a clear vision.

    He had a caring woman
    He was a caring man
    To be anything more
    Was never his plan
    People despised him
    Said it was a waste
    To have such a talent
    That never ever raced.

    Two trains of thought
    Neither is wrong or right
    But contention is self-pleasing
    And knowing what is right
    Proving you’re the best
    Is unnecessary
    It’s the knowing that counts
But to others on the contrary…

    Happiness is cool
    But fame can be scary.
The fastest man in the world
    Lived a happy life
    And remained happily living
With his children and a wife
    Happiness is paramount
    While fame ruins lives.

    The Lost Connection (Song 841)

I’m competing with no-one, just pleasing myself
I don’t expect praise and don’t need wealth
I’m just a working man doing what I can
Making my life pleasurable being what I am.

I’m too old to perform and impress
    Therefore I never expect success
I just do what comes naturally
I will never be anything special, just me.

I’m in the zone when on my own
    I am in another dimension
    I like friendship and affection
But it seems to me I will always be…
    The Lost Connection.

“We can criticise, despise, accept or admire
We are what we are and will always be
Doing what we like and what we desire
Try not to annoy and try to inspire
    But how we interact depends….
    On how we are wired.”

I am what I am and have no intentions
I am what I am and will always be…

2 more songs recorded this weekend

    Hello all,

I thought I wouldn’t have time to record anymore songs this month, but luckily I managed to find time on Sunday afternoon (23-09-2018).   ‘In The Lives Of…’  and ‘Escalator Life’ are very old lyrics dating back to the early 1990s.  I have never touched these lyrics since they were written and therefore these recordings are brand new compositions.  As usual, the first recording wasn’t brilliant but over the last 24 hours I have amended parts and the new mixes are sounding okay.

If you want to check them out on the complete list then they here are the links:
    https://soundcloud.com/thelostconnection/iin-the-lives-of-song-068
    https://soundcloud.com/thelostconnection/escalator-life-song-062
The lyrics are not always exactly the same when the music is added as I sing how the mood takes me when recording it.

Hope you like but, as usual, they are not you’re typical kind of songs.  Why did I choose these ones then (?) you may ask.  Not sure to be honest, lol.  The ‘Mask Of Reality’ logo was based on the ‘Escalator Life’ theme so that maybe why I chose that one.

Right, a break for a week or so now then many more songs to come hopefully.

    Thanks for reading and listening,

    ‘Perpetual Feast’ lyrical amendment

    Hi all,

Just noticed these lyrics have been gaining quite a few reads today, so I had a glance over them and, didn’t think the layout and words really came over as they should (although in my mind when I wrote them they did).   Due to this I have changed a few lines and typed it in one large block instead of the typical layout (eg. verse, chorus, verse, bridge).   Hopefully this will make the read smoother flowing and more comprehendible and come over how I meant it to.  Perhaps I finalised this song a bit too soon, instead of making the necessary minor perfections.  Sorry, and I hope the lyrics are more relative to me and my desire for music.

    Thanks,

    Circular Track (Song 838 maybe)

    Hello all,

All, as in subscribers, followers and other readers who are curious about what goes on in my writing world.  I am currently writing a new song called circular track.   It is gonna be another very deep song which, when living as a writer, you do tend to become a bit self-absorbed and analytical…  well I do lol, hence the ‘Perpetual Feast’ theme which I have recently adopted to describe my writing pursuit.   Here is a snip-it from the 3 verses I have already written:

I’m going ‘round in circles and the ground is wearing thin
Should I step out of this groove that I’m in?
I’m easily pleased and the pleasure still remains
I’m going nowhere fast but…   it keeps me sane.

When people ask if I’ve had any success yet I have to give the inevitable answer, “No”.  But, success is a personal thing and not down to whether you’ve managed to become rich and famous through doing something you enjoy.   Many songwriters are probably wanting it to become something more than an interest and, if that is the case, will tend to seek advice and support to achieve success.  I don’t because I feel that would pollute my own personal creativity.   Perhaps I should try harder to gain attention, but for now all I am prepared to do is do what I do and leave it down to readers and listeners to decide whether they like it or not.  I know when I could have done something better, in terms of writing, recording and (even more so) singing,  It would be pointless paying for critics to assess my work because I know where my faults lie and I feel it is my decision as to how to amend these faults.  As I am not really a singer I do hope to find other singers and musicians that can help me improve my songs, eventually.  In terms of style and appeal, other people’s views are irrelevant as I am just presenting my music as an art form at this point in time.   I hope, obviously, that people do enjoy my music and can relate to my lyrics despite my lack of desire to progress on a professional level.

Thanks for reading this and hope you are able to appreciate the songs I am writing and producing,

    Website update (settings changed)

    Hi all,

I have just amended the settings on my website and hopefully, now, it will be easier to view the site and there will be no attachment which I didn’t create anymore.   I can’t guarantee I’ve amended everything as necessary so let me know if you do have problems still.  Thanks.
