Just A Question (Before Things Get Heavy) (Song 008)

    https://the-lost-connection.com/just-a-question-before-things-get-heavy-song-008/

This was written in 1990 and recorded about 6 years later. It was part of my ‘Reality In Dreamland’ story and was finally released in 2020 (although taken from a tape recording).

"Are my ideas the right ideas? Is this shape a shapeless shape? Is it gonna make or break? Either way how long will it take? If it doesn't go anywhere what changes will I have to make? I like writing songs as a form of expression, I like playing music with a hint of aggression, my songs are on paper, my music's on tape, I'd like it on CD, but is it the right shape?"

As it happens, no changes were made and I continued in my own slow progressive kind of way. Unsuccessful, but true to myself, nonetheless. The album is ‘Mask Of Reality – Reality In Dreamland’, but still not on CD, just MP3 format.

    Whatever Happened… https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/UrQJ7

    Hi everyone,
Over the last couple of years I have released many songs on many albums, as you know, but didn’t spend too much time on them as they were written in the moment and new things were happening. I am currently working on the next album, but have less spare time than in the previous decades. However. as the album is nearly complete, I am trying to make sure all the songs are sounding just how I want them to, before it is released. I am debating about the final playlist and whether I need to add any additional songs. ‘Bliss’ is a sweet piece of music, but I am finding it harder to sing than most, so I am debating whether to replace it with another new one, or keep trying to improve it. I have re-recorded one of my Christmas songs and recorded a new one, which I am not sure if to include on the album and, ‘We Won’t Stop’ has recently been updated with my co-writer. At the moment the first version is on the playlist and the duo version. As we rarely get chance to record together I’m not sure if to wait until it is perfected, or leave it off.

If you could let me know what you think that may help me to decide. Here is the playlist as it stands. Here is an explanation about the songs that are likely to be featured on the new album:

The first song was written about the never ending desire to play music, despite what people think.

1/ We Won’t Stop (just me) – Mixing amendments still required, but it is the most liked song on SoundCloud so far.

This was composed with the James Bond (007) theme in mind:

2/ The Battle Within – I’m happy with this mix and consider this to be the best instrumental I have recorded so far.

An old tune, that was used in an unreleased song, was updated when I collaborated with a lady named Jodylynn. This was going to be sung by someone else but, for now, only me:

3/ Shattering – After much amending I think this is sounding good enough to be released. I could add more, but there is a limit.

This was inspired by a brief about about a bunch of people travelling from island to island, but the brief passed and I changed it slightly:

4/ (Feel The Vibe) With My Tribe – This began as a collaborative effort, but this final result was all of my own making. Almost as good as I want it, but a slight vocal volume adjustment needed in one part.

This was written and recorded within 24 hours of the ‘If’ idea being thrown at myself and other musicians:

5/ Ifs And Buts – It could be improved, but I am happy with this mix. The vocals on the first 2 verses could be improved but I am reasonably happy with this version.

A song based on a few silly errors that affected my trust in people and made me a bit paranoid. You cannot help the way you are, or prevent the way you have become sometimes.

6/ I Am Just Me – I think this could be released as a single as sounding pretty good all round.

A physicology that is worth understanding:

7/ The Fastest Man In The World – Another one that I think is ready for release.

This was written when I was not where I wanted to be, but alcohol and cigarettes were needed to get me through it, but I was still unsure as to what I needed. The answer was: a long break and a new job. This happened and so much more. I gave up smoking after meeting my (now) fiancée and we now live together, sold my house and bought a smaller new home, cleared my mortgage, released 10 albums and a single and life is now great.

8/ I Don’t Like What I Do – I’ve amended the lyrics since it was first written in 2018. It is not perfect yet, but almost there.

Based on a winning mentality and having a goal in life, as opposed to not wanting any success:

9/ The Best – A song written very quickly while thinking ‘sync’, but just a jigsaw piece in the concept of this playlist.

Here are 3 songs about different relationship/interaction scenarios:

A sad 50 years of marriage:

10/ Golden Anniversary – A song written in 1990 which was recorded very quickly and, despite room for improvements, I’ll probably make do with this version.

A guy encouraging a female friend into his car to get things moving, so-to-speak:

11/ Beep! Beep! – Another song written while in ‘sync’ mode, but became just a very unusual song. I have included it for it’s unique time signature and for a more variety.

A food advert inspired song, but could also be regarded as a song about a twisted lusting to please, even if it leads to death:

12/ Onion Man – Death By Quest For An Onion Lover – The lyrics are so whacky I had to record it (although 30 years later). Some synth brass parts could be slightly amended, but it’s getting better. Tricky one to sing as there are 2 different characters (male and female) within the song.

And then a bit of a deviation… This song questions our actions:

13/ What Is Justice? – I am debating about removing a small middle section in this song before the album is released. This is the most riskiest/controversial song on the album, and in my history so far, almost!

After a weird period of change, all came good and this is about the woman that made my life better.

14/ Bliss – I need a love song to balance out the different scenarios, but this sounds a bit gloomy, although sweet (musically) and very sentimental. I can’t sing love songs very well so the vocals aren’t very good.

And this is a love song that doesn’t sound like one, but is nonetheless:

15/ You – This was recorded from scratch on 24-03-22. I need to improve on this initial idea, but at least I’ve started it.

    Other songs for consideration are:

1/ My Christmas Wish (A waltz song from last year)
    2/ ‘We Won’t Stop (The L & F Version)
3/ A Very Merry Christmas (a new version of an old song, released in 2020)
4/ What My Father Said (This contains a lot of bad language and doesn’t fit as comfortably in this playlist, but was recorded to tie in with ‘We Won’t Stop’.
5/ This Gift (a song from 2015 and recorded a few years later).
6/ Cheap New Book (A song from 1990/91 which was re-recorded with my late mate, Steve Emm, in 2016.
7/ Squeeky – This contains lots of puns and innuendos.
8/ A Lost Love (A good song but not sure if it will be placed on any album now).
9/ Crazy In Love (A good song, but recorded a few years ago and most have been tecorded 2021 and 2022 so far.

Hopefully the current playlist will be released as album in the coming weeks or months.

    Death

    https://wordpress.com/edit/page/126658326/3696

    Death is deeper than life!
    Life lasts a lifetime
    But death lasts forever
    Life is about existing
    Fighting, surviving, compromising
    And persistently trying.

    Death is a brief occurrence
    That creates a permanent state
    An end to internal battles
    By an external escape.

    What was is no more
    Overlooked and disregarded
Life is an act as a matter of fact
    But death is for real.

    Death is deeper than life
    Whether buried or cremated
The late, the great, passed away
    But memories were created.

    Life is predictable
We’re born, we live, we die
    But death is much deeper
    Because the afterlife’s unknown.

    Death is deeper than life
    Especially when 6 feet under
The end of life is the beginning of death
    Which will last forever.

    DistroKid earnings so far

    Hi everyone,

Without any promotion (due to production quality not being worthy of such) this is the earnings of ‘The Lost Connection’ so far:

    $6.00 = Best 5
    $4.92 = Lost Property + $5.36 (my purchase)
    $3.79 = Best 1
$3.75 = Mask Of Reality – Reality In Dreamland
    $3.45 = Best 4
    $3.22 = 2020 Vision + $0.13 Single
    $3.00 = Best 2
    $2.90 = Best 3     ($0.71 + $2.19)
$1.02 = The New Lost World
    $0.30 = The Lost & Found

‘Lost Property’ was my first release in December, 2019. It was a collection of songs that I thought wouldn’t suit anyone else and my personal property. I rushed to release it before the decade ended so I could start a fresh from 2020 onwards. Some of the songs were scrappy, some more polished and some were just okay.

The next 5 ‘Best Of 2011- 2019’ albums were a collection of most of the songs from this period. It was only meant to be 2 albums but, fortunately, I am glad I did release an additional 3 albums. Part 5 has reaped the most income and contained my least regarded songs. Part 4 is also doing better than Part 2 & 3. Many of the songs had been recorded very quickly and, due to having lost the master recordings, I had to reinforce the vocals to make them more audible, but sometimes it made them sound too cluttered as not perfectly synchronised.

‘Mask Of Reality – Reality In Dreamland’ was originally recorded on tape in the 90’s, but the final piece wasn’t added until 2020. This enabled this story-based album to be released (after production tweets, as the tape recordings had perished). I’m glad I did finally release these 21 tracks as I spent over 4 years writing and recording it.

‘2020 Vision’ I had to release before 2020 had ended, as it was relevant to that year. I did the best I could in the time I had. Improvements could have been made, but I had to move on to newer material. Each album I regard as a milestone in regard to where I am in life (or was) and, if there are imperfections, then so be it. It was as good as I could manage in that period to which the album had significance.

‘The New Lost World’ consisted of songs recorded mainly during the latter period of COVID. It was me dedicating virtually all my time to music and trying to learn new things and mingle with other musicians online (during a 6 month sync-writing course). Many of the songs were made relevant to my situation between 2020 – 2021, although sometimes written as subject tasks, or for specific briefs. It also contains songs which I first wrote (lyrically) 3 decades before. I tried to piece them together to form a story on a parallel to reality. ‘Mr. Retro’ was more of an extra which I threw on the end.

‘The Lost & Found History’ was the last release, (end of September 2021). It is a collection of tape recordings dating as far back as 1999. They were great collaborative sessions that, although 7 of the songs had been released before, were no longer available to stream. Some of the songs were just practice session recordings and, until recent years, a couple were just instrumentals. Fortunately, I created lyrics, but I didn’t get around to recording the vocals until more recent years. As ‘The Lost & Found’ (a track about the collaborative duo which we had become) had gained the most ‘likes’ on SoundCloud, I felt I had to release it, together with all of my other songs which we had recorded together.

So, that is the story behind each album so far and it is interesting to see which albums gain the most attention considering the background behind the making of each one. There will be another album soon, but a bit more random as opposed to having a significant storyline, but I’ll try my best to form some kind of message.

Thanks for reading and I hope I can record songs that are more worthy of promotion on the next album. Bye for now.

‘Best Of’ 10 albums based on Streamings:
    https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/zQHcD

Hi all subscribers and a welcoming ‘hello’ to new subscriber, Balvir Singh.

I have to confess, I am a statistics geek. I am always curious as to which songs are gaining the most attention without being given any proper promotion. As many of you know, most of my songs were recorded within my home, with less than adequate recording equipment, and in very short spaces of time. This led me to expect the more polished songs would stream more but, this has not always been the case so far.

I often wonder if my lyrics do play a big part in the likeability of my songs. My favourite songs are not always the same as the listeners’ and, in this playlist, I have only included 2 songs from each album. Inevitably, some songs on my first album have been listened to, and liked, more due to having been released over 2 years ago and, may contain loads of my best songs, but I have had to include no more than 2 (although 5 of the songs were put on the 2011- 2019 five album collection) so a couple more sneaked into the playlist from ‘Lost Property’.

It’s at this point I hope all subscribers/listeners will try and find the songs that they like the most and make them become the more popular ones. I hope that when I compile a ‘Best Of’ it will be THE VERY BEST OF and not songs that are less credible and unworthy of a place in this playlist.

On to more current activities, I’m working on a new album. I won’t say too much yet, as I am still working on the songs mixes, playlist order and album title. Once I have had time to perfect each new song I won’t know if to include older unreleased songs or just keep it as brand new ones. The playlist is ‘Whatever Happened!?’ on SoundCloud (just incase anyone is curious). It does contain some edgy lyric songs with some offensive language, so I may have second thoughts and include older unreleased instead. I will probably write another blog regarding the songs being considered for the next release soon.

Also, I have started to publish more of my lyrics as they are written, so more of my website can be read and enjoyed. Many of the song titles were just stored as drafts on Facebook, but I am slowly making the older ones available for public viewing within this website. The total of lyrics written is now 1017.

Thanks for reading this blog and following me and/or subscribing to my website. Bye for now.

    Hi to anyone reading.

I have many subscribers, but no communication or interaction history. By looking at the emails I can see the names of many of them, some of which seem to be very well known people, but it would be good to know who they are for sure. If you happen to subscribe then please let me know and feel free to subscribe to emails list so I can interact more with the people that count.

I could email each individuallly, but that could take a while 😂.

That’s all for now and hope to hear from current subscribers, or future ones, soon.

    @ThisMorning: Doug the Spud

While watching ‘This Morning’, this morning, I saw this interesting story so, like I do, I wrote some lyrics regarding it:

    Doug. (Song 1014)
    Found in the ground
    No other around
    Hard to identify
    Never seen by the eye

    Larger than ever
    Seen before
    Cleaned and unearthed
    In the freezer preserved
    And stored until this day.

    August 21
    A dig and a Doug
    Appeared from the Earth
    The largest ever spud.

    This freak appeared
    A shape so weird
    So a DNA test
    Was the request.

    Although we’re unsure
    I think we know
    Doug is the largest
    Potato.

    August 21
    A dig and a Doug
    Appeared from the Earth
    The largest ever spud.

    ‘Shattering’
    (https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/GAm4G)

    Hi everyone.

Here is a song which was created from music to another song which was never released. The original song was, ‘Cracks’. The riff (which was played over 2 chords) was catchy and simplistic. Am Italian lady, who was on the same sync-writing course as me, was looking for a dark sounding tune. When I sent her the tune featured in this song, she decided it was worth turning into a new song. I wrote similar lyrics to the original (which was about cracks appearing in a relationship). Jodylynn helped me shape the song and had some lyrical input too. I tried my best to sing it how she wanted, but a professional singer is being seeked to add their vocals instead.

I will probably release this version on my next album (although improvements maybe made beforehand) whereas the other version, if it happens, will be used more for sync opportunities instead, hopefully. In Italy, where Jodylynn lives, COVID is causing a hindrance on this endeavour, but hopefully new vocals will be added eventually.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading this blog update and I hope you like the new song developments.

PS. Another song, a collaborative effort, is my main focus at the moment. Eventually, it will feature guitar and vocals of my co-writing friend. I will do a blog about that song next.

    The next album

    Hi everybody,

Many of you reading this blog will know I have released 10 albums now. Some songs were not included on any of these albums because they weren’t recorded well enough, inappropriate, or just didn’t fit in well with other songs

However, over the last year I have, amongst recording new songs, improved some of the older ones. The only problem is there is no distinctive theme, or story linking them together (which I always aim to do, even if very loosely). I may record some more songs to create a common-thread or theme, but the playlist is nearly an hour long already.

I may have to either settle for a more random selection of songs, or disregard some of the older songs until a more appropriate time. I have included a song (which was recorded in 2016) in homage to a friend who committed suicide last year, as he was the guitarist/vocalist on this song and played a big part in my musical progression and, thus, injected motivation into my creativity, back in 1991 – 1993.

This playlist my change (due to the reasons mentioned above) before it becomes an album. There are 2 Christmas songs featured on it, which is not normal, as well as a waltz tune at the end, which doesn’t sit very comfortably, I sense I’m going to have to refine it a bit. I will try and perfect the Christmas songs to the best of my ability, so they can be released by next Christmas.

For now I’m gonna rummage through my lyrics (and see what other people think) to decide whether to record new and more appropriate songs for the next album. ‘We Won’t Stop’ is the only musical collaboration within this playlist and may change significantly in due course (when additional guitar and vocal parts are added, hopefully).

I’ve gotta think fast, while I have the time, as my hand is still in a plastic cast. I can still compose the music for lyrics, but just hard playing it with only one hand.

Right, that is the situation at the moment. I think I have done as much as I can to each song on the playlist for now, but I will have to strive to get the Christmas songs as perfect as possible. I don’t usually aim for perfection, but when it comes to Christmas ones, great new songs are needed. Perhaps I’m aiming a bit too high, but why not!!? It makes a change.

Any suggestions will be welcomed and I thank you for reading this blog.

A Warm And Wet Christmas (Song 1012)

In days of old when tales were told
    Things weren’t so bright
Cobbled streets, log fires for heat
    And candles to provide light.

The sun did shine but snow did fall
And colder times times were felt by all
But now with cars, trains and planes
With gas and electric all has changed.

    Those memories of the past
    Make Christmas last
    So special in our minds
    Although no longer white
    A warm ‘n’ wet Christmas
    Is now what’s it’s like.

    It’s warm, it’s wet
    But lucky we met
    To celebrate Christmas time
    The roads were clear
    And allowed us here
To raise a glass tonight (cheers!).

    It’s another year to celebrate
Don’t care if warm and wet
    We keep the festive spirit
But the old times never forget.

    With presents and cards
    Nuts and sweets
    Classic films
    To watch when eat
    A drink of coke
    Or sherry or wine
    Together with turkey
    At Christmas time.

    Those memories of the past
    Make Christmas last
    So special in our minds
    Although no longer white
    A warm and wet Christmas
    Is now what’s it’s like.

    It’s warm, it’s wet
    But lucky we met
    To celebrate Christmas time
    The roads were clear
    And allowed us here
To raise a glass tonight – cheers!

    It’s another year to celebrate
