Tales Of The Unexpected (Song 796)

You maybe on track, then derailed
You think you’ve passed, but discovered you’ve failed
You maybe married, but in time divorce
You feel at ease, but then you’re forced
    Into the unexpected
You feel loved but then neglected
On a winning streak, but then rejected
And then you question what the heck’s going on
In life? Divorced with no wife
Everything you do makes you think twice
Now never knowing what lies ahead
You feel healthy, but you could soon be dead…
    Tomorrow, gotta rise above sorrow
Try not to wallow in what is and what isn’t anymore
Time to learn from the mistakes before
When all’s gone you’ve got to be strong
    And after the demise, rise
    Above pessimism and depression
    Learn and lean towards progression
That’s the endeavour – easier said than done, but
Whatever may happen you never know
Try your best and see what shows
Life is a game and for winning we aim
    For contention’s key avoiding greed
Instead of trapped we need to be freed
Have the inclination to slowly progress…
    Into a life of happiness.

Life – tales of the unexpected.

    So far in 2018

    Hi all.

This year I have managed to record 29 new songs within the first 6 months and improve vocals on some of the older ones.  I am constantly trying to improve the vocals on some of the songs recorded this year too.  There are many songs that still need improving, but the ones that have been improved I am reasonably satisfied with.

The songs which I have re-sung include:

    1/  Connection
    2/  Drought
    3/  In The Doghouse
    4/  Man With A Plan

‘Past Is The Present’ has been spruced up with additional backing tracks and some older songs have been slightly improved in regard to sound quality.

I hope to continue to record a new song each week, but cannot guarantee this.  If I don’t find the time I will mention an older recording that I feel may deserve another listen.

I am surprised certain songs are not getting many listens, but any listens is a bonus.  Songs I like but haven’t had many listens include:

    1/  Sick
    2/  Reflect
    3/  Action Not Words
    4/  Juvenile Offender

On the other hand I am glad ’Cloud 9 (Music Only)’ and ‘All Or Nothing Kind Of Man’ have managed to get a lot of listens over the last few months, as well as ‘Answerphone’ suddenly gaining a bit of interest.

Thanks for reading and hope my songs are being enjoyed or inspiring others to start writing songs.

    Favourite Songs on SoundCloud

I have created many new playlists on SoundCloud.  These playlists include:

    1/   Live Tape Recordings
    2/  4-Tracker Tape Recordings
    3/  Anyone want a song?
    4/  My Favourites

The latter playlist I will run through as to why I have regarded the songs in this playlist as my favourites.

1/    ‘Folie Douce’  –  the newest and most basic tune and lyrics to date.  A totally different style, but inspired by the vibe and style of music which is played at “La Folie Douce’ (a chain of entertainment bars that can be found in French ski resorts).   With headphones on the separate vocals are more segregated as I managed to pan-out the different tracks, whereas without such it is one big mash of tracks and sound.  It’s a groove thing that, although not necessarily one of my better songs, has something catchy about it.

2/   ‘Reflect’  –  a song which was written to a piece of music already composed and recorded.   The music was written for someone else’s lyrics but not used.  To prevent the music being completely dismissed I decided to turn it into my own song (and is one of my favourites because of the brass interaction and overall sound (despite it’s very unusual style).   The lyrics are about focussing on yourself and achieving rather than letting everyone else determine everything.  The theory is, this is the way to please yourself and everyone around you, ultimately.

3/   ‘Cloud 9’  –  this is in ‘My Favourites’ playlist because I love the music.  The verse style is a bit unusual, but the following sections are lovely chord changes and I like the synth sounds which I used to create the feel to this piece.

4/   ’SongCast’  –   this was written about the ’The Lost & Found’ and the use of the internet radio station (SongCast).  I feel inclined to change the words to “At Last!” as we do not use this station anymore.  It was released as a single just to preserve it in the history of time, but was costing too much each month.  I will undoubtedly release it again using a different service.  The production of this song is good and it was enjoyable recording with my mate Tim, on vocals and guitar, after such a long gap.  The lyrics say it all really.  Unfortunately, very little has happened since.

5/   ’The Lost & Found’  –  a great guitar riff thrown on top of my keyboard riff.   One of my favourite tunes and the lyrics couldn’t be more relevant to everything in life (especially music).  The most personal, deep and meaningful lyrics I have written.

6/  ‘Animal In A Cage’ – a very personal song about how i felt in life – safe but trapped!  This was when I used ‘Mixcraft 5’ instead of ‘Logic Pro X’ and the production (as I always find) was louder and better.  I experimented with vocal effects for the first time and I thought it seemed to work.

7/   ‘Forever Love’  –  a very old song that was recorded very quickly.  Tim, on guitar and vocals (although guitar too quiet to hear) I think only had a couple of attempts at singing this before having to go.   This is the most popular track on my SoundCloud, on I think that is probably because of the saxophone parts I played on the keyboard.  It is very sentimental, but I began writing this by just exploiting puns in the first verse.

8/  ‘Action Not Words’  – a reasonably new song which features brass and organ sounds, which is always good in my mind.  I like the beat, style and lyrical message in this song.

9/  ‘Searching For The Sun’  –  this is in ‘My Favourites’ playlist because it has a totally different pattern to all my other songs.   The verse is only 7 lines and the riff is before the chorus.  Therefore I like it for its individuality and the catchy chorus chord sequence (which has been used before/after).

10/  ’Sick’  –   lyrics written in an instant and music composed and recorded very quickly too.  I was inspired by a certain someone.  Many scenarios seem to give this impression and the term, ’Sick For The Cure’, has been used many times in the past.

11/   ‘All Or Nothing Kind Of Man’  –  how to turn a very simple riff into a complete song.   I already had the riff and the lyrics written separately.  I paired them together, created a fast and slow drum beat and “Hey presto!”.   The most popular song in the last year.

12/  ‘Education Revisited’  –  I like this song because I have managed to play in more of a rock style, rather than my normal 80’s style, which is the style I prefer to play.  This was about when I started studying ‘Accounts’ due to an industrial injury which I thought was jeopardising my current employment.

13/  ‘We Try’  –  another song written and recorded very quickly.   This I spent a bit more time on producing and adding extra effects.  I don’t sing the break very well but, as a song, it comes over as reasonably interesting and likeable.

14/  ‘Revenge’  –  another piece of music that was paired to lyrics.   I created this tune somewhen during the mid 90’s and loved playing it. I managed to find the ideal lyrics that fitted well with it.  With the help of Tim’s vocals and guitaring contributions (and spontaneous solo moment) the track was recorded in 2000.  The lyrics are very poignant and reflect how I felt about certain people in the working environment I was in at the time.

The last week before www.the-lost-connection.com is complete.

I have almost reached my deadline for completing my website.  The task to add every single set of lyrics has virtually been done.  I just need to add a short story I wrote and the complete version of ‘The God Trial’, then that is it.  As I have a week off I will try and add these last two pieces soon.  Meanwhile I will record at least one more song this weekend and possibly more during the week.  Not sure which one yet, but all will be revealed tomorrow hopefully.

I will do a big promo on July 6th, to let the world know about my songwriting and, hopefully, more people will become interested in my music and words….  but who knows?  I should look at ways of sprucing the website up and making it look more appealing, eg. add photos, videos and colourful pictures and decor, but may have to turn to a friend or two to help me with that part.

Hope you enjoy what I have written and/or recorded and, if so, keep following me.

    Thanks,

‘We Try’ (Song 821 – the 2nd Song on the FaceBook challenge)

Recently, on FaceBook, a task was set on/by the ‘singer/songwriter’ group – to write a new song every week.  I have entered one song so far, ‘Love Tap’  (Song 820), and last weekend I recorded another new song.  The lyrics I only started just over a week ago.   I have set the upload for Saturday (but changed my mind – uploaded on Thursday, 14th June instead) and may try and improve it in the meantime.   I will still try and record older songs inbetween, but may be hard managing to do both each week.

The song to record this weekend is…..

    https://www.facebook.com/notes/the-lost-connection/show-me-some-love-song-611/1758151824272464/

If you amalgamate the lyrics and music from the two site above (lyrics below also) then that will  be the song I will be endeavouring to record this weekend.  I will have to record high and low vocals.  Should be fun, lol.

    ‘Show Me Some Love’

V1. These days I never get mentioned
I feel more attention should be
    Given     to me…
    Given     to me…

    V2. You’re too self-absorbed
I wouldn’t mind if it reaped reward
    Instead you’re     losing
    My       attention.

CH. Let me in, show me some love
A small place in your heart is all I am asking of
You, see it from my point of view
We all need space, but we need each other too.

    V3. Patience is a virtue
    I try to tolerate you
How much longer will it take?
How much longer can I wait?

    CHORUS

BR. “Is it time for me to make a start
For me to play my part?
    And interact more…
    To win back your heart?
Or should I draw the line
    And stop wasting time
    Let’s think about me
And what I want bear in mind.”

    CHORUS

CH 2. How much longer can I wait?
How much longer will it take?
Is it all a big mistake?
    Is our love enough?
Show me, show me some love
Show me, show me some love
Show me, show me some love
    Show me some love.

    Over 100 Songs

    Hello all,

Just realised that I have sung over 100 of my songs now and 101 of them can be listened to in ‘The LOST Vocal Tracks’ Playlist.  There are some very old recordings which I cannot find still and, as you know, I am adding at least one song to my SoundCloud site, every week  (and have been for nearly a year now, in fact).   On July 6th I will share the whole of this playlist via a ‘FaceBook Promotion’.   Many of the songs do need improvements as most of them have only been recorded very quickly, as merely demos…  but not sounding too bad with headphones on.  Anyway, still gotta decide what song to record this weekend (although I’m ahead of target).

Anyway, thanks to everyone who is listening to the songs and reading these blogs.

    ‘The Lost & Found’

This is song 452, which was written in 2001 to a tune that was created within a year before.  As the title indicates, it was written about myself and my mate (who was the other half of ‘The Lost & Found’ and featured only on guitar in this song) but can refer to many things in life to.

This is one my favourite songs to date and I am very pleased to reincarnate it from a very dodgy tape recording done back in 2001.   Vocals were added on 18th May, 2018.   This recording costed £0.00, but an hour or so initially recording it back in 2001 and a few hours during 18th and 19th May, 2018.   This explains why the quality isn’t to the standard of songs on the radio or SoundCloud, but it is the best I can do with a recording this old.

I hope people like it as much I do.

Song 809 – It Is What It Is!

Life is a funny old thing and sometimes you try your best and nothing comes of it, except hassle.  I am currently on stress leave due to annoyances at work (mainly).   Time out is the only answer and, for me, writing a song is the usual solution.  So, today, I wrote, ‘It Is What It Is’ which I think contains some lines I’ve used before, but so what!  It is what it is.
