Working Man’s Blues (0021)

(This was written before the minimum hourly rate was set and many were paid pittance)

CHORUS
Cost effective, but just neglect
What you say has no effect
As long as you do the job you’re set
Then low pay will stay.

VERSE 1
It doesn’t matter what you say
Or what the contract says
You can put a fight, but you’ll never be right
Is what it comes to in the end.

VERSE 2
They hide behind statistics
To shrug off all the critics
In may look good on paper
But it just ain’ t realistic.

CHORUS
Cost effective, but just neglect
What you say has no effect
As long as you do the job you’re set
Then low pay will stay.

VERSE 3
It’s not a case of greed
It ain’t just the pay
It just can’t be called
‘Greed’ anyway.

VERSE 4
It’s a matter of principles
Which they just haven’t got
Sod their employees
They’ve got what the want.

CHORUS
Cost effective, but just neglect
What you say has no effect
As long as you do the job you’re set
Then low pay will stay.

CHORUS
Cost effective, but just neglect
What you say has no effect
As long as you do the job you’re set
Then low pay will stay.
